Community Services
Community Services
provides consultation and support to individuals, families, schools and
other agencies regarding the issues surrounding the Pervasive Developmental
Disorder Spectrum. Consultation and teaching focuses on behavioural
supports, communication strategies, life and social skills, long term
planning and school advocacy. For more information or to

Central West Community Services Resource Centres
The Brampton, Mississauga, Dufferin & Wellington Resource Centres lend
various materials such as books, journals, newsletters, videotapes and DVD's
on a wide range of topics including Autism, Pervasive Developmental
Disorder, Asperger's Syndrome, education, long-term planning, communication
strategies, recreation and leisure and other related topics. Please
contact your nearest Resource Centre for more information or check out our

In addition, access to computers is available including internet access for
researching information relating to Autism Spectrum Disorder and for
accessing picture communication symbol software.

Dufferin
Social Groups
Dufferin
offers a limited number of social groups each year depending on need. Community services staff are also available to consult to other social
skills groups within the community.
Parent Support Group
Meeting
the last Wednesday of every month
from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., this is an opportunity for parents to
get together to discuss and share strategies, personal struggles and success

Sibshops
Sibshops is a program for
brothers and sisters (aged 5-12) of children with special needs. It
offers a chance to meet other siblings and talk about the good and not so
good parts of living with a brother or sister with special needs.
It is an opportunity to meet others, play games, do activities and have

Family Resource Days
Family Resource Day appointments provide an opportunity for individuals
and/or their families to discuss and brainstorm with an Autism Consultant
around issues regarding Autism Spectrum Disorder. To book a one-hour
appointment, please contact

create visual suppots, families are encouraged to use the
Resource Centre's visual making centre equipped with two
computer work stations, Boardmaker, colour printer, laminator
