| A Description Of Our
Services
Autism is a life-long disability from which
there is no known cure. There is much that we can do, however, to ensure
that people with autism expand their horizons of independence and
achievement. Provided with the necessary supports and the development of
communication and life skills and integration into the community, we have
learned that people with autism have talents, skills and a desire to
contribute that can be utilized in the workplace, school and in the
community.
The residential programs operated by Kerry’s
Place Autism Services offer safe and practical living arrangements within
various communities in Southern Ontario. Communication and life skills are
taught in all settings, at school, in the work place and in social and
recreational settings. Our group homes are single family dwellings which
usually accommodate four residents per home. Kerry’s Place also provides
supported independent living arrangements and home-share settings.
The Kerry’s Place Community Outreach
services are more specific to the needs of the respective communities that
they serve. Depending upon the Ministry mandate for the specific region,
the community outreach program may serve both children and adults or only
children and adolescents until the age of 18 years. Overall, the Kerry’s
Place Community Outreach programs provide support and consultation to
individuals with autism and their families. This service may take the form
of behaviour management, family resource days, workshops and parent counseling.
Respite support is provided to families in
need through community outreach. These arrangements can be offered in
residence or in the community. |
